Get Married in a Theatre by Ruth Lee

A Wedding Ceremony Your Way

Nestled in the heart of Leicester City Centre is Leicester’s oldest and in my opinion finest theatre , the Y Theatre. Designed by Albert Sawda, The Y was originally built as a Christian lecture hall. Over the years it has had many uses and during WWI it was a hub for service men on their way to and from the trenches, providing accommodation and meals. To protect its beauty and history it became a grade 2 listed building in 2001. Today The Y is a bustling live performance venue in the heart of Leicester City. Over the years The Y has played host to some wonderful musical and comedy acts and is at the heart of Leicester’s annual Comedy Festival. The theatre has been part of launching the careers of many famous people including Tim Minchin, Jimmy Carr and Michael McIntyre.

So what a fantastic space to hold your Wedding!

The Y Theatre is a striking and affordable venue, and they have a fantastic and friendly staff team who can assist you with bringing all of your ideas and creativity to life. The theatre space can comfortably accommodate your guests in their stall seating and beautiful balcony. The space is great for a ceremony, with wonderful potential for imaginative entrances by the wedding party and with an alter on stage, there isn’t a bad seat in the house for your guests or photos. And remember it’s a Theatre so you are going to be well lit! What’s not to love? After your ceremony you and your guests can then adjourn to the lovely bar area whilst The Y team set up the theatre space for your reception. They can cater for 120 guests for a sit down meal plus a top table on stage. There is an option to transform the space into a dance floor. Apart from it being a brilliant space to cater for all your wedding and reception needs it is a beautiful space that will look great in your photos and is packed full of atmosphere and character. It’s your theatre equivalent to a stately home or castle location without the price tag!

The venue is a well known Leicester space for wedding receptions but is relatively unknown as a place you can hold your wedding ceremony in. Even though the venue isn’t licensed for the legal bit of your wedding you shouldn’t let that stop you having your wedding the way you want it in this amazing space. All you would need to do is get your official marriage ceremony completed at the town hall, and did you know you can do this in a very simple and cheap way? For example on a Wednesday or Thursday you can be married in the Laurel Room at the Town Hall for £46 plus £11 for your paper license. (Remember everyone no matter where they get married must pay £70 per couple for the Notice of Marriage which is a legal requirement by everyone.) Once the ‘official’ business is out of the way then you are free to have your wedding ceremony anywhere (permissions apply). And if getting married on a stage in front of all of your friends and family is what you want then a venue you like the Y Theatre in Leicester is a perfect place to say ‘I Do’.

And to make that day as memorable as possible then why not ask an Independent Wedding Celebrant to help you create your ceremony so it’s packed full of emotion and will be truly memorable for you and your guests. A personalised script created for you by me Ruth at Handmade Ceremonies narrating your journey as a couple, with one of a kind personalised vows, commitments and symbolic ceremonies, woven together with your hand picked selection of music, readings,  and include a cast full of everyone you want to include in your wedding. You dream it and I will create it! And together in a wonderful venue like The Y Theatre you will have a day to remember like no other.
